Design & Technology
Through our Design and Technology curriculum at St Michael’s, we aim to create a practical, enriching, and engaging subject which inspires our pupils to become engineers, architects, designers, and chefs. Our goal is to encourage pupils to use their creativity and imagination to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and other’s needs. We teach a range of progressive skills combined with subject knowledge to enable children to practice and develop as they move through school. We make cross-curricular links through Maths, Science, and Computing to establish a meaning and motivation for children’s own learning. We strive to provide all children of all capabilities with a range of exciting experiences that reflect their interests so that children are encouraged and moved to become innovators and risk-takers. We want our children to become confident and expressive in their Design and Technology decisions, being aware of its impact on daily life and the wider world, especially in an increasingly technological world. We want Design and Technology to prepare our pupils for real life opportunities and experiences of problem-solving, creative thinking, innovation, and resourcefulness to become successful after life at St Michael’s.
