Art
Art and Design embody some of the highest forms of human creativity. Art and Design at St. Michaels engages, inspires and challenges all the pupils we teach, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art and design. As pupils progress they should be able to think critically and develop their understanding in Art and Design. We enable our pupils to produce creative work, exploring ideas, valuing their own cultural heritage and recording their experiences. We teach them to become proficient in drawing, painting, collage, printing and 3D work. We teach children to evaluate and analyse creative works using the vocabulary of Art and Design. Pupils learn about great artists, craft makers and designers and understand the historical and cultural development of art forms. Our Art and Design curriculum also provides children with a creative outlet to explore and express their emotions. It can help to build resilience and develop social skills. For many children the arts can be a creative outlet for releasing feelings of pressure or stress of everyday life.

Artsmark
We are very proud to be working towards the Artsmark in our school.
Artsmark is the creative quality standard for schools, accredited by Arts Council England. We would like to continue to share our journey and update you regularly with all the new exciting creative experiences here at St. Michael’s Primary school.
Key Stage One Art Club
We have a KS1 Art Club every week. We have a great time, learning about different artists and art techniques. Here we are making animal pictures out of Autumn leaves.
Key Stage Two Art Club
Our KS2 Art club is great fun. We have been developing our skills each week and learning about different art styles. We have built up really great portfolios of work already.
BATIK in Year 6
St. Michaels Art Gallery
We now have our very own St. Michaels Art Gallery in the school hall. Amazing art work from all classes will be framed for all to see. Please come to visit our art gallery. It will also be shown on the school Facebook and Instagram.
