Music
At St Michael’s, we recognise the importance of artistic development, enjoyment and the acquisition of knowledge and skills through quality study and the performance of music. We make every effort to ensure that all children are able to participate fully and develop their musical abilities according to their skills and individual needs. We provide opportunities for our children to undertake a balanced programme of performing, composing, listening and appraising activities, building on previous work and their achievements. We provide them with the tools to develop their listening skills, leading to an appreciation of a wide variety of musical forms and styles. Throughout their musical education at St Michael’s, children learn how different styles of music are appropriate for different purposes, traditions and from different periods and cultures.
We strongly believe that music enables us to live out our school vision and that in music lessons we can ‘share’ our passions, show ‘care’ for others’ thoughts and opinions and ultimately ‘learn together’ through new experiences in Music.
